Connecting our hometown to its rich history

The Purcellville Preservation Association will hold its 3rd annual Vintage Tour 'Our Favorite Places' on Heritage Day on Saturday May 15, 2010, from 10 am to 4 pm.  The location of this year's tour and other details will be posted here as they are confirmed.   However, volunteers are needed now to get started.  Contact us today if interested (hdchair@ppa-va.org) or come to our next planning meeting on Mon March 8 at noon at The Carver Center.

Originally a Homes Tour, coordinated so successfully by former PPA Member Susie Windham,  the tour is typically the largest tour that the PPA organizes.  This year, our new Vintage Tour 'Our Favorite Places' will showcase not only homes throughout town but very significant properties with a special story and history. We expect hundreds of guests to tour these gems of our town.

All Vintage Tour volunteers receive one complimentary admission to the tour.  We welcome people of varying backgrounds, ages, and skills to volunteer for the tour.   Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

PROPERTY RESEARCH
These volunteers assist in researching the home's history, working with the property owner and other resources, and help prepare the script for the docents to use during the tour as well as for the informational brochure that will be given to guests with their admission ticket.

VOLUNTEER DOCENTS
Tour docents work a roughly two-hour shift in one area of the properties designated by the chair.  The exact length of the shift depends on the number of docents working in a home.  Docents will receive a 'fact sheet' of the property with details.  Docents also ensure that the property is respected and returned to the owner in the condition it was entrusted to us.  For those able to stay most of the day, we plan to move docents around so that they are not at the same site all day, making it far more interesting!

Other volunteer opportunities include:

    * Selling tickets at two kiosks (one in town and one on the site of the Heritage Day fairgrounds at Fireman's Filed);
    * Setting up signage in the morning;
    * Preparing property for the tour in the morning;
   *  Closing property down, cleaning up signage and the tour ticket kiosks at the end of the day;

To volunteer or to ask questions, contact Meredith Thomas, Chairperson for the Vintage Tour and Heritage Day Fair at 540-454-4458 or at hdchair@ppa-va.org.
